Lighthouse Café & Beacon Coffee is owned and operated by Karen Young, who has lived with Stargardt disease — a rare condition that causes progressive vision loss — since her teenage years. Accessibility is not a checkbox for us. It’s personal.

What We’ve Done
Steps we’ve taken to make this site accessible:
- Keyboard navigation — all interactive elements are reachable and operable by keyboard alone.
- Skip-to-content link — a visible skip link appears on focus to bypass the navigation.
- ARIA labels & roles — form fields, modals, and interactive controls include descriptive labels for screen readers.
- Color contrast — text and UI elements meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast ratios.
- Semantic HTML — headings, landmarks, and lists are structured for assistive technology.
- Reduced motion — animations and transitions are suppressed when the OS-level “reduce motion” preference is set.
- Responsive design — the site works at all viewport sizes and zoom levels up to 200%.
- Alt text — all meaningful images include descriptive alternative text.
Known Limitations
We are not currently aware of accessibility barriers on our website, but we welcome feedback and will address any issues that are reported to us (see below).
We actively work to identify and fix accessibility issues. Third-party services (Square payment widget, DoorDash) are governed by their own accessibility commitments.
